Uninterruptible Power Systems
UPS, a device which provides an uninterrupted power source.  They are made up of an power source input, batteries, and an inverter.  Most of the time the device simply acts as a gate and routes utility alternating current power thru contacts to the load or appliance connected which needs the electricity.  When there is an interruption of the alternating power source then in less than on cycle of the alternating current or simply milliseconds the appliance connected receives alternating current via the inverter which is fed by the battery.  There are different types, KW sizes, and different duration periods any one device could furnish the electricity.

Selection of the device depends on the needs of the particular loads to be supported.  UPS systems are utilized in most scenarios for protection of data loss for programming of logic assemblies and to protect data entry since the last save from being lost due to an alternating or utility power loss.  Sensitive and critical equipment can not lose power so the UPS were developed to fill in usually momentarily until back up power generators or other sources are on line.  No glitches, no loss of power, no loss of data or programming.

A good understanding of power use is necessary in determining what device is best suited for the job.  There are all kinds of bells and whistles but typically for desktop computers or logic assembly programming simple is okay.  However if the UPS is to be used in conjunction with stationary combustion engine generators other factors will effect the selection.
A UPS can provide 120 volts for durations of 5 minutes or more.  However care should be taken to size the device per the connected load or the outcome will not be as you planned.  Additionally the batteries which provide the source for back up do not last forever.  If used in conjunction with back up power sources considerations for UPS load has to be taken into account when sizing the back up system.
Put our knowledge to work for you.  We can design, furnish and install and then make sure your systems does what it should.  If you need just a simple solution we can help with that as well!
